A 46-year-old doctor and his teenage daughter have tested positive for Zika virus infection in Pune. The first case of the virus was reported by a doctor and his teenage daughter who were living in Erandwane.

PMC Reports Six More Cases of Zika Virus

The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has reported six more cases of Zika virus infection this year. The third case was reported in Mundhwa on Thursday, while the sixth case was reported in Hadapsar on Friday. All six cases have been confirmed by the National Institute of Virology (NIV) in Pune.

The PMC has undertaken various measures to curb mosquito breeding in the city, including fogging, spraying, and distribution of mosquito nets. The civic body has also appealed to citizens to take necessary precautions to prevent mosquito bites, such as wearing long-sleeved clothing and using mosquito repellents.

Centre Issues Advisory to All States

The Union Health Ministry has issued an advisory to all states and union territories, asking them to take necessary measures to prevent the spread of Zika virus. The advisory includes guidelines on surveillance, vector control, case management, and public awareness.

The Ministry has also advised states to set up dedicated fever clinics for suspected Zika virus cases. The clinics will provide free testing and treatment to patients.

Zika virus is a mosquito-borne virus that can cause fever, rash, joint pain, and conjunctivitis. In severe cases, Zika virus can cause neurological complications, such as Guillain-Barré syndrome and microcephaly in newborns.

The virus is spread through the bite of an infected Aedes mosquito. Aedes mosquitoes are found in tropical and subtropical regions around the world, including India.
