Former US President Donald Trump has launched a scathing attack on his once-close ally ex-Israeli leader Benjamin Netanyahu, accusing him of being "very, very disloyal".

Trump's comments came in an interview with Fox News, in which he also accused Netanyahu of "messing around" with the 2020 US presidential election.

Netanyahu has denied the allegations, saying he is "very disappointed" by Trump's comments.

The former US president's attack on Netanyahu is the latest in a series of public spats between the two men.

In recent months, Trump has repeatedly criticized Netanyahu's handling of the COVID-19 pandemic and his decision to form a new government with the support of an Arab party.

Netanyahu, for his part, has accused Trump of being "obsessed" with him and of trying to "rewrite history".
