Synopsis

Gypsy is a 1962 American musical comedy-drama film directed by Mervyn LeRoy and starring Rosalind Russell, Natalie Wood, Karl Malden, and Paul Wallace. The film is based on the 1959 Broadway musical of the same name, which in turn was based on the life of stripper Gypsy Rose Lee.

The film tells the story of Rose Hovick, a single mother who dreams of becoming a famous stage mother. She pushes her two daughters, June and Louise, into show business, but they eventually rebel against her and go their own ways. Rose is left alone and broken-hearted, but she eventually finds solace in her work with a local theater company.

Conclusion

Gypsy is a classic film that is both entertaining and heartbreaking. Rosalind Russell gives a tour-de-force performance as Rose Hovick, and the film's music and dance numbers are spectacular. Gypsy is a must-see for fans of musical theater and classic Hollywood cinema.
